crossfade.js is obviously inspired by the similar effect seen on Medium.com blog post headers, helping developers imitate and implement a similar effect on their own websites.
crossfade.js uses the HTML 5 canvas utility to draw out the blurred image.
The effect can be applied when scrolling up or down the page, for images shown anywhere on the page, not just the top.
As for plugin options, crossfade.js allows developers to control start & end positions, off-screen threshold, and the faded image's background position.
A simple demo is included with the crossfade.js plugin package.
